Day 2: 'Ashland, OR to Walnut Grove, CA'

Very thick fog settling in the valley outside of Ashland, OR

Long travel day today, from the southern edge of Oregon to a little past Sacramento, CA.  We arrived in Walnut Grove around 3pm after the GPS led us on a VERY scary levee road that was filled with poorly repaired potholes and cracks.  The “campground” was a small place that was mainly for full-time residents, but since it was close to where Papa used to live, I figured it would be a good choice for us.  There was a stop sign at the entrance but then we couldn’t find an office and no one came out to greet us.  Uh oh - had I made a big mistake in taking us here?

After wandering around for a bit, we finally called the RV campground number and the lady who answered had forgotten we were arriving and finally came out of a trailer- the one we didn’t even think was habitable at first glance.  The site she had us going into had a tree that was hanging so low we couldn’t fit under it, so she had to move us.  But then that site was a 50 amp (instead of 30 amp) and Rick didn’t have an adapter, so he was getting a little frustrated.  While Rick worked on the getting the trailer hooked up, I started working on setting up the inside and found that the freezer had started defrosting somehow and now had an ice dam built up.  That ended up in a ½ hour endeavor to remove everything from the freezer and remove all the ice and then replace it all.  Since I still had Beamer and Kitty to deal with, I put Beamer in the sun (still in his cage) to wait for the water to heat up so he could get his shower.

Now to get Beamer out of the truck, I had to move Kitty’s litter box out of the way and figured I would just put it under the truck.  Well, I forgot to put it back inside and when Rick went to move the truck, yep, you might have guessed it, he ran right over the litter box and smashed it like a banana.

Meanwhile, Beamer still needed a shower and when I went outside to use the outdoor shower nozzle, no water would come out.  I yelled in to Rick to help me and he gave me a bunch of things to try but nothing worked so I finally gave up and put Beamer in the shower inside the trailer.  Half an hour later, everything was cleaned up and Rick went out to troubleshoot why the outdoor spigot wouldn’t work.  He took great pleasure in showing me the button on the spigot that turned the water on and off, that I had not seen.  Whatever!

All in all, this campground is pretty nice (very quiet) and we are looking forward to staying here for a day and letting Kitty and Beamer relax for an entire day in the trailer.
