Day 10: 'Snow in Tucson?!?'
The wind and rain
was relentless the night before, to the point that we pulled in the slides on
the RV to prevent any possible damage from the storm. Soon after sunrise, the snow started falling! It was a very wet snow and wasn’t sticking,
but it was coming down hard.
We drove south to Green Valley, AZ today, to visit our friends Judy & Rob Guy. About that time, the snow hit their place and big fat flakes fell for about an hour, dusting the tops of the nearby mountains.
Earlier I had spied a few bougainvillea bushes growing near the main offices of the RV. They were
wrapped up in burlap to protect them from the cold, so I reached under the coverings and
plucked a few blooms and leaves to take back to Beamer. When I gave them to him, he was kind of
interested and flicked them with his tongue quite a bit, finally eating a few
of the flowers, but that was it. Good thing he doesn’t live in the wild in
Florida – he would starve, as that is the primary source of food for those
iguanas. Beamer prefers his bananas and
collard greens that he gets his
humans to bring to him.
The sun came out in
the late afternoon, with the outdoor temperatures getting high enough to open
the windows and doors in the trailer, letting in the fresh air. Beamer wanted a part of it and climbed up on
the table to bask in sun’s rays, right in view of the open door and in plain
sight of anyone who might be walking by.
I was fully prepared to tell anyone who questioned what that might be,
that he was a stuffed animal that I routinely put out as decoration for the RV. If it resulted in further questioning, I
figured I could just say he was my support ‘animal’. LOL
